Sheppard Air Force Base

Home to the 82nd Training Wing and the 80th Flying Training Wing, Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls employs 14,000 people and plays a key role in training and equipping U.S. Air Force personnel.  Sheppard’s economic impact on our Wichita Falls community is estimated at nearly $900 million a year.

The 82nd Training Wing is the premier Air Force school house for future aircraft and weapons system maintainers.  In addition to that mission, Sheppard recently received funding to provide advanced training to non-commissioned officers (NCOs).  Additionally, the base received funding to train Air Force nuclear specialists in a nuclear material accountability system.  Sheppard was also awarded a grant to improve students’ quality of life and is actively being considered for cutting-edge missions directly impacting the War on Terror.

Sheppard is also home to the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) program—the premiere pilot training program in the U.S. Air Force.  Currently, six countries – Germany, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, and Spain participate in ENJJPT.  Graduates go on to fly F-22s, F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, unmanned drones, and a variety of other aircraft.  Keeping the ENJJPT curriculum in Wichita Falls and our trainer aircraft in our skies is one of my top priorities. To visit the official website of Sheppard Air Force Base, click here.
