U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry
Dear Friend,

I believe that the first job of the federal government is to defend the country.  We cannot enjoy our many freedoms if our nation is not safe and secure.  That means the federal government must have a primary focus on national security.

A strong focus on national security takes on new urgency as the pace of planned or attempted terrorist attacks inside the United States seems to have picked up.  In the past eight months, there have been published reports of at least a dozen thwarted attacks or terrorism arrests here.  Unable, thus far, to replicate the 9/11-style spectacular attack, Al Qaeda and related terrorist groups are pushing less complex — but still potentially deadly — attacks.  The recent failed bombing in Times Square is the latest example.

In the next few weeks the House will debate national policy and funding for our Armed Services, as well as for our intelligence community.  As a member of the two committees which oversee these critical issues, I am working to make sure we support our national security priorities rather than use legislation to score partisan political points.

I always appreciate hearing from you on these issues and any others that come before Congress.  I also welcome your ideas to get America back on the right track.

Sincerely,
